The science of roof inspection in the Northwest is guided by many factors, including but not limited to:

¨ Geographic location not only within a given area but also within a variety of microclimates.  These exist due to the various natural landforms of an area which affect rainfall, snow and ice accumulation, seasonal exposure to sunlight, fog, mist and wind exposure.  Even the orientation of a building in relation to these factors is considered.

¨ The species, abundance and age of the surrounding trees and vegetation. A building or development located in a heavily forested area will be affected by falling needles, leaves, and other debris backing up behind roof obstructions (e.g. chimneys and skylights) and in keyways, hastening roof deterioration and impeding proper drainage.
